Intoxicatingly Delicious Drunken Mussels

Units Scale
  • 2 tbsp garlic butter
  • 2 cups of celery hearts, chopped
  • 5 lbs of fresh mussels
  • Juice of 1/2 lime
  • Handful of fresh herbs, we used parsley and dill
  • 1/3 can Guinness Stout Ale
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp pepper


  1. Check over the mussels, remove any broken ones as well as any gapers.
  2. Melt the garlic butter over medium high heat.
  3. Add the celery and allow to soften for 1-2 minuts.
  4. Add the mussels. top with the lime juice, fresh herbs and Guinness.
  5. Cover, turn the heat to high and cook until steam begins to barrel from under the lid.
  6. Remove the mussels, set aside.
  7. Add the salt and pepper to the broth and reduce the broth by 1/3, pour over the mussels.
  8. Serve with crusty bread for dipping in the flavorful broth.
