- 1 bag (12 ounces) fresh cranberries
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup water
- Zest and juice of 1 orange
- 1 cinnamon stick (optional)
Instructions
- Rinse the cranberries under cold water, removing any stems or damaged berries.
- In a medium saucepan, combine the cranberries, sugar, water, orange zest, and orange juice. If using, add the cinnamon stick.
- Place the saucepan over medium heat and stir to dissolve the sugar. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
- Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally. The cranberries will burst and the sauce will thicken.
- Taste the sauce and adjust the sweetness if needed by adding more sugar.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the cranberry sauce cool. As it cools, it will thicken even more.
- Once the cranberry sauce has cooled to room temperature, remove the cinnamon stick (if used).
- Transfer the cranberry sauce to a serving bowl or airtight container. Refrigerate until ready to use.
