  • Yield: 2 Cups 1x

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 bag (12 ounces) fresh cranberries
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • Zest and juice of 1 orange
  • 1 cinnamon stick (optional)

Instructions

  1. Rinse the cranberries under cold water, removing any stems or damaged berries.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine the cranberries, sugar, water, orange zest, and orange juice. If using, add the cinnamon stick.
  3. Place the saucepan over medium heat and stir to dissolve the sugar. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
  4. Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally. The cranberries will burst and the sauce will thicken.
  5. Taste the sauce and adjust the sweetness if needed by adding more sugar.
  6. Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the cranberry sauce cool. As it cools, it will thicken even more.
  7. Once the cranberry sauce has cooled to room temperature, remove the cinnamon stick (if used).
  8. Transfer the cranberry sauce to a serving bowl or airtight container. Refrigerate until ready to use.
