Slow Cooking For Two, Basic Techniques Recipes
Gibbs Smith, Publisher
Cynthia Graubart's ( The One Armed Cook, and co- author of biscuits and mastering the Art of Southern Cooking) latest book Slow Cooking for Two might have been a redundant addition to a long line of slow cooker how to's if it weren't for two simple facts, firstly this is as the title implies a book about cooking for two, which is a nice change from trying to downsize the usual ten person meals found in the usual slow cooker guides and secondly these recipes require no additional appliance, no stoves, mixers, blenders, etc making it ideal for places a slow cooker actually comes in handy, such as the cottage, boat, RV, or camp.
Having said that this book has something else going for it, the recipes are elegant, sophisticated and absolutely delicious. We had packed the slow cooker away once the house began to empty out but when this book came along we decided to blow off the dust and reintroduce ourselves to the humble appliance. I can honestly say we've never had a better relationship!
Some favorites from the book include Sherry Braised Lamb Shoulder Chops, Chicken Thighs with Mushrooms and Sun-Dried Tomatoes, and Mushroom Risotto.
If i were to add one simple criticism ( ones not so bad) it would be the lack of photos, the recipes turned out beautifully and would, in my opinion, have been beautiful accompaniments to the wonderful recipes.
